Project 2: Precedent


This structural form (created by University of Michigan architecture students) was produced by pouring concrete in between two pieces of rubber which were sewn together.  A wooden frame was built to hold the piece in place during the curing process of the concrete.  By attaching plywood to the surface of the rubber, the students were able to have a degree of control over the thickness of the resulting form.  The following site has really good documentation on their process..
